This article is going to be something a little bit different: I'm still on vacation, but figured I should write sort of a self-congratulatory celebration post for 500 published blog posts on koskila.net, and offer y'all a quick look at what's going on with the site and myself.

koskila.net is evolving - after 10 years!

If all goes well, you should be noticing some small differences in the layout and all that. Most of the site should be migrated over from WordPress to - perhaps You guessed it - GitHub Pages using Blazor Static.

But more on that later. Plenty of more, really. First - we're looking back.

I started writing this blog in the May of 2015, around the time I started working for Blue Meteorite (the parent company of Valo - the intranet product that just got shut down by the new owner, Staffbase). Blue Meteorite was my second "real" employer, after some years of having worked as a freelance web developer while studying.

The first few years worth of articles were mostly workarounds and weird fixes I had already documented somewhere - in notepad, OneNote, email, and such - and slowly fed onto the site. But since in my daily job I was working as a SharePoint developer, I had plenty of stuff to write about.

And I guess that shows! From around 2018 I've posted roughly every Tuesday - missing a week here and there, but it's kind of amazing to have been able to keep it up for such a long time.

Truth be told, I could not have imagined how long I'll keep writing these articles for - and how many people I'd get to share my findings and thoughtful workarounds with.

Those 500 articles have been read cumulatively by a few million visitors at this point - which is just mind-boggling.

I more or less started in the heydays of personal blogging, kept through until the whole craft is now dying out - and will keep doing this at least for the time being. I trust I'll keep running into issues in the future, too, and I'm setting myself up for easily publishing those fixes (or workarounds) in the future as well.

So, I guess the bottom line is this: Thank you for sticking with me through 10 years of blogging!

Or if you haven't been here for the whole time (the first articles got like 3 views, 2 of which were mine and one was my mom, so not very many people have), thanks for being here now.

Moving on from WordPress...

WordPress (literally) served the site quite sufficiently for years, but it's really been quite painful for the past few years.

The old WordPress site powered on through multiple migrations, upgrades, outages, hosting provider changes and all that for 10 years. I'm working towards retiring it (for a number of reasons!) and the new experience is a part of that.

Playing with Static Site Generators and especially Blazor Static has been fun - and infuriating. Playing with a weird combination of technologies is always fun, and GitHub Copilot Agent has been used (and abused!) in the process!

Renewed as Microsoft MVP for the 6th time!

Oh, and Microsoft were appreciative enough of the blog (and other stuff) to honor me with another year of the Microsoft MVP award - which I'm of course quite thrilled about! 500th techy article, and 6th year being recognized for that (and the occasional other thing I might do) is humbling.

Like I said - I never thought I'd keep blogging for such a long time.

Anyway - I'm on vacation, I might still post something next week or maybe skip it (like I effectively skipped this one!)

If the new site has any bugs, please do report them to me on Twitter or BlueSky :)
